MONDAYS WITH MORT

                                                     ABOUT US

Mort Resnick has an extensive Jewish background and is a member of four synagogues, Congregation Am HaYam (Conservative) in Ventura, CA,  Chabad of Ventura and Chabad of Oxnard (Orthodox), and Temple Ramat Zion (Conservative) in Northridge, CA.

The name of this web site comes from the name of the weekly sessions he conducts at Congregation Am HaYam.  The sessions review the weekly Torah Portion through questions based mainly on Rashi's commentary and incorporating other commentaries from the Talmud and many other  sources.  We strive to make the topics discussed relevant to modern life and to Jewish religious ritual and worship practices.

Examples of other facets we discussed one week were how the mirrors of the Jewish women in Egypt helped ensure the survival of the Jewish people, the contribution of the Jewish women to the building of the Mishkan and their reward for it.  We also discussed the difference in doing a mitzvah when one is obligated to do it and when one is not obligated to perform the mitzvah. Which one is more laudable and why?
